Eleanor could no longer contain herself. She rose suddenly, her chair scraping loudly against the floor. “This is outrageous! This is illegally obtained information! I will not be subjected to a witch hunt!”
The judge, an older woman with zero tolerance for theatrics, slammed her gavel down. “Sit down, Mrs. Vale, or I will have the bailiff physically remove you from my courtroom.”
Eleanor sank back down, trembling with rage.
Then, Diana played the audio recordings. The ones retrieved from the clinic’s own internal security servers.
Eleanor’s cold, aristocratic voice echoed through the courtroom speakers, crystal clear and absolutely damning: “Make sure you don’t show Mara the male fertility report, Doctor. Bury it in the legal addendums. She’s much easier for my son to control when she truly believes she’s defective.”
The silence in the room was deafening.
Celeste pushed her chair back, creating physical distance between herself and Adrian. “Adrian?” she whispered, her voice shaking violently. “Is that true? You told me she was barren.”
He said absolutely nothing. He stared straight ahead, his eyes glazed with the realization that his carefully constructed world was disintegrating.
Diana turned calmly toward the bench. “Just one more matter, Your Honor, regarding the corporate embezzlement charges. I would like to call our expert witness to clarify the financial extortion.”
The heavy oak doors at the back of the courtroom swung open.
Captain Hayes entered. He was wearing a dark, immaculately tailored suit. He walked with his cane, but his posture was terrifyingly straight. Pinned to his left lapel, gleaming fiercely under the fluorescent lights, were the unmistakable medals of a decorated military commander.
The atmosphere in the room changed before he even spoke a word. The air grew heavy, thick with impending doom.
Reporters scrambled to stand up, their cameras forgotten.
Adrian turned around. There was no arrogance left in his eyes now. There was no smugness.
There was only primal, unadulterated fear.
Diana walked toward the witness stand. “Sir, please state your legal name for the court record.”
His voice boomed through the room, calm and absolute. “General Elias Alexander Thorn.”
At the defense table, Adrian’s attorney, Mr. Sterling, literally dropped his expensive fountain pen. It clattered loudly onto the wood. He knew exactly who General Thorn was. Everyone in high-level corporate law did.
General Thorn didn’t look at the judge. He looked directly into Adrian’s soul.
“Mr. Vale,” the General began, his tone conversational but laced with venom, “attempted to extort my global foundation. He attempted to bribe my security staff. He sent armed contractors to intimidate me into selling protected, medical-grade land. And during my internal security investigation of his threats, we discovered that he was systematically diverting charitable donor funds from his own company into his personal expenses to maintain his mistress’s lifestyle.”
“That’s a lie!” Adrian snapped, half-standing, spittle flying from his lips. “You have no proof! You’re a crazy old man!”
General Thorn didn’t even blink. He merely lifted his silver-tipped cane a fraction of an inch off the floor.
Diana clicked the remote one final time.
A torrential downpour of evidence flooded the screens. Internal corporate emails. Wire transfer receipts. Encrypted text messages. And high-definition security video footage showing Adrian’s hired men threatening Thorn’s property manager.
The color completely drained from Adrian’s face until he looked as though he were carved from wet ash.
Then, the judge leaned forward, steepling her fingers, and asked the singular question that destroyed him completely.
“Mr. Vale. Are you aware that General Thorn’s legal team has already referred all of these documents to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for corporate fraud and racketeering?”
Adrian sat down slowly. He melted into the chair as if all the bones had been surgically removed from his body.
Part 5: The Liberation
The divorce was granted entirely on my terms within forty-eight hours.
The Evergreen House was immediately awarded to me as restitution for the stolen inheritance, and then, in a stroke of poetic justice, it was immediately seized by federal authorities during Adrian’s total asset freeze.
His boutique investment company collapsed under the weight of the federal investigation within a month.
Eleanor was formally indicted and charged with multiple counts of medical fraud, forgery, and conspiracy. The society friends she had spent decades cultivating dropped her name from their guest lists overnight, pretending they had never met her.
