The White Cloth in Car Windows

How Should You Respond?

If you encounter a vehicle displaying a white cloth, the best response is caution rather than panic.

First, reduce your speed gradually and increase the distance between your vehicle and the one ahead. Avoid sudden braking or abrupt maneuvers that could create another hazard.

Try to assess the situation from a safe distance. If the vehicle is stopped on the shoulder, appears to be in distress, and the surrounding area is safe, you may decide to stop at a reasonable distance, activate your hazard lights, and offer assistance.

However, you should never put yourself in danger to help someone else.

If the location is isolated, traffic is heavy, the situation appears suspicious, or someone seems to require urgent medical assistance, it may be safer to remain in your vehicle and contact local emergency services or roadside assistance. Trained professionals are better equipped to deal with dangerous breakdowns, medical emergencies, and roadside hazards.
